A Very Cultured Day

I spent a day with Tiyas yesterday.  We went for a much-needed sushi lunch, then she bought some CDs, did some groceries and I paid all my bills this month.  Yes, a huge “PHEW” because there isn’t anything I dread more than late bills and warnings.  Anyway, after it’s all done, we went to an old friend’s house.  My good friend Mr. J.  He invited me to watch Stanley Kubrick’s works a few days earlier, but as I was busy looking after the house -oh how glorious it was to have the maid away on vacay-, I promised him to drop by his place and go with the Kubrick marathon on Thursday.  So me and Tiyas did.

The Art of Gift-Giving

So I got the most amazing birthday presents from my boyfriend yesterday. Click here for the story. And, I got a wonderful birthday package from my dear friend Wenni, consisting of: a cute neon-pink pillow that says “Sleeping Beauty” (she knows I don’t sleep much or maybe she’s concerned of my getting older), a bright red tank top (she knows I need more color in my wardrobe) and a mug with my face and hers printed on it (this is pure her thing: a bit of vanity). How thoughtful!

Anyway, I got great birthday gifts this year!

I thank God greatly for everything He had given me throughout the years. My birthday thank you post is in Indonesian, for I am still one, and it’s all here.

Now I want to take a look on my progress for the past seven years.

Sugar Coated Sh*t

Living in a country (supposedly) containing hospitable people, one might expect courteous behavior from those working as customer service staffs. And when one gets such (courteous behavior), one should really know how to handle it. Otherwise, one will be overwhelmed by the overdosed sugar content. I learned that a couple of nights ago, when I had to call my ADSL provider to file a complaint.

Singled Out

Life as a single girl is tough. Even when you’re in a relationship. And that is because the world wouldn’t acknowledge your commitment to your significant other when there’s no symbol to confirm it (a.k.a wedding ring).

I can live with that.

But I’m not talking about relationships here. I’m talking about the perception of being ‘single’ in the professional life. In Indonesia, they just LOVE to hire single people for two reasons:

Ask Away

I introduced myself to Yahoo! Answers today and boy, was I amused.

Whoever thought of this idea in the first place must be a genius… or, like me, they had thousands of -some might think- silly questions that needed to be answered just for the sake of it. It reminded me to post of some of my silly and embarrassing questions I had when I was little. But because I used up my asking quota for the day, I have put some of those questions here and go back there tomorrow. Here goes…

The Gym

A couple of days ago, whilst stuck in traffic, I called a supposedly one of the most famous gyms in Jakarta. Here’s how it went:

Me: “Hi, I’m interested in joining your gym. Do you have any information about a membership fee?”
Guy: “Of course, ma’am. May I know who I’m speaking to?”
Me: “My name is Asmara.”
Guy: “Right. Miss or Missus?”
Me: “Miss” -I really had no idea why they asked.
Guy: “Okay Miss. May I have your contact number, please?”
Me: “Why?”
